Due process is a fundamental concept in the United States legal system. At the same time, however, it is probably one of the most amorphous and sometimes misunderstood ones. For lawyers trained in the United States, “due process of law” becomes a phrase with special meaning resulting from the study of a number of judicial decisions, especially those of the U.S. Supreme Court.
